Public Lands Renewable Energy Development Act Benefits Wildlife, Hunters

Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Martin Heinrich (D-NM), proactively seeks to responsibly site solar, wind and geothermal energy development on our public lands and prioritize considerations for fish and wildlife habitat that avoid and mitigate impacts upfront. EVENT RECAP: Montana BHA Battles Invasive Weeds at Summit Trailhead

Author: Kevin Farron
On Saturday, seven public land owners went to town on some invasive weeds at the Summit Trailhead off of the Marias Pass! The effort was in collaboration with our friends at the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation. Together, as part of our annual commitment as Summit Trailhead 'adopters,' we pulled enough knapweed to fill a dozen garbage bags! At lunch, volunteers feasted on homemade wild game pastrami and sausage, and hunters and non-consumptive users alike sparked up some great ...

Proposed mining operation near Okefenokee NWR

Author: Gunner Hall
Recently, Twin Pines Minerals LLC of Birmingham, Alabama filed a permit to mine titanium dioxide near The Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. The Okefenokee Swamp (which is the largest Federal Wildlife Refuge east of the Mississippi River) is no stranger to potential mines. OPINION: Montanans won’t suffer fools gladly — especially when it comes to our public lands

Author: Ryan Busse
Originally published in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle  Montanans are not fools. Hunters, anglers and outdoorspeople, we know how to spot a wolf – especially when they are in wolf’s clothing. New Bureau of Land Management head William Perry Pendley is fooling no one. He’s not even wearing a disguise. Earlier generations warned us to be on the lookout. They saw robber barons ruin our rivers and poison our politics. The Trump administration’s decision to install Mr. Pendley, an unabashed advocate ...

How To Make Venison Summer Sausage

Author: Travis Hall
If you’ve been deer hunting for a number of years, you’ve likely had your fair share of venison summer sausage. Usually stuffed into five-pound sleeves of dark colored collagen casing and served in slices alongside beer, cheese and crackers, this cured meat staple is ubiquitous in deer camp kitchens across North America.  Frequently prepared in butcher shops and small-scale wild game processing plants, the roots of summer sausage can be traced back to pre-industrial Germany where it was ...

Summer 2019 Idaho Chapter News

Our Idaho Chapter was very busy preparing for the 2019 Rendezvous in Boise May 1-4th. A groundswell of volunteers stepped up to promote and coordinate numerous details leading into hosting the 8th annual event in downtown Boise. BHA members were similarly effective at the Statehouse this recent legislative session. Most of our efforts focused on, unfortunately, submitting testimony against egregious bills that continuously came up for committee hearings. Our best efforts were in coordinating ...
