The Montana Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers generated a record-setting $56,620 for mule deer conservation by raffling the species’ Governor’s tag. Bucking the historical trend, these special tags have always been auctioned off to the highest bidder, that is, until now. Created as a way to boost revenue for species-specific conservation and habitat work, Montana’s Fish, ...

Well, here we go!' The Long Road to Rendezvous

The Long Road to Rendezvous Words and Photos by Melissa Hendrickson   As far as driving directions go, it’s a pretty easy route from our hometown to Rendezvous in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It only involves four turns: take highway 200 East, right turn on highway 93, merge onto I-90 East, then take I-94 East to Minneapolis. Granted we live in Sandpoint, Idaho so those directions do span the distance of almost 1,400 miles. In a stroke of serendipity, Rendezvous dates nestled themselves nicely ...

AFI Event Review (Bob Marshall Wilderness 2022)

Author: Trevor Hubbs
Event review of Bob Marshall Wilderness Dual Skills Camp July 2022.   I had heard the term wilderness before, but I didn't fully appreciate what it meant until I spent a week hiking over 70 miles through the Bob Marshall wilderness doing trail maintenance with BHA's Armed Forces initiative. This is an amazing part of the country, and I am so thankful to the Armed Forces Initiative for offering me a chance to go. Having seen the Bob Marshall it's so much easier for me to explain to folks why ...

Hunting Colorado’s Mountain Merriam’s (with The Colonel & The Fox) and Struttin’ & Cluckin’ at Rendezvous

Author: David Lien
Among hunter-conservationists the story of the decimation of wildlands and wildlife during the 1700s-1800s followed by a remarkable recovery during the 1900s-2000s is well known. However, a week prior to the start of the 2024 spring turkey hunting season Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) Habitat Watch Volunteer Rick Hooley forwarded me a new YouTube documentary (“The Colonel & The Fox”) about two of turkey hunting’s foremost protectors and proponents.[1] During 2018 I wrote about ...
