New England BHA Members Get Ready for Deer Hunting

September 14, 2019, Morrisville, VT – Members of the New England Chapter gathered to hike and shoot in preparation for rifle deer season. With a nod to the Olympic sport of Biathlon, hunters hiked four laps through the woods to accumulate two miles and shot two rounds per lap at steel targets, utilizing multiple shooting positions with their deer rifles. Short penalty loops were the cost for misses at the Lamoille Valley Fish & Game Club, who hosted the event, and the finish consisted of a ...

What Public Lands Month Means To Me

Many Americans are not aware of the true wealth they possess through their shared ownership of our Public Lands and Waters.  These wild places provide us untold benefits even if we do not ever realize it.  Besides the things outdoors enthusiasts enjoy like wild places to camp, hike, fish, hunt, watch animals, and just “get away from it all”, our public lands and waters hold numerous natural resources like grasslands, timber, minerals, and oil, which ultimately benefit all of us via the ...

SB 316 helps ensure access to public lands

The godfather of the North American Model of Conservation, Aldo Leopold, once said, “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.” Accessing those last few blank places on public land should become a bit easier after the Nevada legislature’s passage of SB 316, which is designed to stop private landowners from illegally blocking public access to our public lands.   The new law now falls into Nevada’s Code NRS 202.450 under ...

The 2019 Michigan BHA Rendezvous and Finding Common Ground

Author: Michigan BHA
With a few weeks to reflect on the numerous successes of the 2019 Michigan Chapter Rendezvous, common ground was the unofficial theme that kept popping into my head. Hundreds of individuals gathered at Tall Oaks Campground on August 16th and 17th, where we  surrounded by thousands of acres of our public lands inside the Manistee National Forest. For the outdoor enthusiasts, professionals, youth and many others that were getting their first taste of the hook and bullet community, this place ...

BBQ Beaver Sandwiches

Author: Wade Truong
I’m a little hesitant to so eagerly endorse beaver meat amongst friends, because I’m worried there won’t be enough left for me. I’ve written pretty extensively about our first time cooking beaver, but if you need any more encouragement to try it, this recipe is a good place to start. It’s simple, easy to make and everyone likes barbeque. The Korean-style black barbeque sauce is a little different but absolutely delicious. As an alternative you could also prepare this meal with a North ...

Ohio learn to dove hunt is a huge success.

The Ohio Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers just wrapped up an exciting Learn to Hunt event.  With over 20 total people involved over the course of three different days, we could make this post quite lengthy.  We could talk about what we did good, talk about what we could improve.  Rehearse quotes from participants new to hunting, describe in lengthy prose the details of the hunt.   We are keeping this simple because of the following statistically-proven fact: Adult non-hunters are ...

Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Appoint Northern Colorado Assistant Regional Director

The Colorado chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers recently appointed Lauren Jaebker to serve as an Assistant Regional Director for the Northern Colorado region. Lauren was born and raised on the west side of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She started fly-fishing at a young age and some of her earliest memories are from exploring the streams that flow west of Colorado Springs in the Pike National Forest. “Actually, before I was allowed to tag along on the streams, my dad would ask me to ...
