Fried Dove with Mesquite Pancakes and Smoked Prickly Pear Syrup

Author: David Ross
In September our Arizona chapter held its 1st annual Dove Cook-off and Pint Night to celebrate the opening of dove season. Held in Yuma, the event brought together BHA members and supporters from across the region to celebrate our public lands, raise awareness of the Land and Water Conservation Fund and engage with likeminded hunters and anglers. The chef who prepared the best dove-based dish received a prize package from Traeger Grills. Here, I've complied one of the winning recipes we've ...

CO BHA Member Reports Illegal OHV Use

On September 14th, a BHA member and Denver resident was preparing for the opening day of Colorado’s muzzleloader season by scouting one of his most reliable spots when he witnessed a truck parked past a No Motor Vehicles sign. The next day — the opener — he hiked into his spot in the dark to pursue elk on a limited draw tag. On his return, he saw the same truck parked with an established camp approximately a mile past the road closure. He promptly documented the location of the camp and ...

OPINION: Support Montana Headwaters Security Act to protect wild, scenic rivers

Originally published in the Missoulian I am the son, grandson and great-grandson of timber men and ranchers in the Flathead Valley. My family came to Montana in the '30s to capitalize on the vast richness of opportunity, to raise a large family and live in a place that was like no other. Earning a living on private and public lands in and around this valley lent itself to free time being spent hunting lands and fishing the rivers and lakes that flow through and dot the landscape. These ...

Shared Stewardship

Author: Tyler Ross
“Many hands make light work”. When these words were penned in the 1324 cult classic Bevis of Hampton, folks may have scoffed at it. Or they could have loved it. Who knows? But what I do know is that now days, those words ring truer and truer. On September 25, 2019, The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service and United Forest Service entered into a Shared Stewardship Agreement with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, North Carolina ...

Pennsylvania Take Two campaign: A Hunter Mentorship Program

As part of its efforts to recruit new folks to hunting and make lifelong hunters out of them, Pennsylvania BHA is launching the Take Two campaign. PA BHA recognizes that simply recruiting new hunters and offering them a one-time or short-term introduction to hunting may not be enough to help beginners get over the hump to becoming a dedicated, lifelong hunter. What really helps someone become a hunter is having a reliable mentor who can assist in various ways over a season or several ...
