PA hunters and anglers unite to protect funds for land and water

In late November, the Pennsylvania Chapter of Backcountry Hunters joined a coalition of hunting and angling groups to speak as one against proposed budget cuts that would have permanently altered funding for public land, clean water and a host of programs that benefit outdoor initiatives.  Led by our friends at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, we were joined in opposition to the measures by the American Woodcock Society, Chesapeake Council of Fly Fishers International, ...

Two in the Far North by Margaret Murie

This title is part of BHA's Jim Posewitz Digital Library: Required Reading for Conservationists Sen. Martin Heinrich recommended this book to the BHA staff, and it has since become one of my favorites. In an incredibly moving memoir, Margaret “Mardy” Murie transports us back in time to the turn of the 20th century in Alaska, where the journey begins on the Tanana River and then to Fairbanks where she spent her childhood. We float along the Koyukuk River as she marries Olaus Murie, a ...

BHA Podcast & Blast, Ep. 93: Bobwhite quail conservation with Michael Hook and Mark Coleman

Some of us are old enough to remember the gloaming of hot summer days waning into twilight, listening to cicadas and the sweet, two-note call of bobwhite quail gathering for the night. A few of us of us know the intense excitement of coming up behind a bird dog on point and the explosive flush of a 40-bird covey suddenly in the air. Southern quail hunting was a culture and a way of life. Meet the folks on the front lines of restoring the bobwhite quail and quail hunting to public and private ...

Where Hope Lives: A Brief BHA History

Author: David Lien
Hope can be a double-edged sword that cuts deep, for better or worse.
