Fried Heart Strips

Author: Anne Jolliff
Heart is something my family always overlooked when I was growing up. Like many, we stuck to the classic cuts of meat and didn't utilize organ meat well. My husband changed that when he did a quick fry of heart strips and I realized what I was missing. Over the years, I've modified it from his recipe and it has become a favorite with our own family! This is a quick, easy weeknight meal that we look forward to with every animal we harvest. As with all breading recipes, there's lots of room ...

Montana BHA comments on Elk Management Citizen Advisory Group Recommendations

Author: Montana BHA
Just in time for peak rut, 15 elk-related recommendations were released for public comment from FWP on September 15th. Developed by FWP's hand-selected Elk Management Citizen Advisory Group, the proposals range from 'Enforce Stricter Penalties for Trespassing...' to 'Choose Your Weapon/Season,' and many others. In our opinion, there are many good proposals here, though some need tweaking, and others miss the mark. All deserve consideration and comment, however.⁣ Below, you will find links to ...

Proposed Holland Lake Lodge Expansion

Author: Montana BHA
A proposed expansion to Holland Lake Lodge is proving quite controversial. Included in the new builds would be a restaurant, more than two dozen lakeside cabins and a 28-room lodge. More details on the project can be found here. While Montana BHA understands the special use permit holders desires and reasonings ...

Tacos On the Fly

Author: Andrew Hahne
July in Missoula is characterized by days floating the three major rivers that run through town; the Clark Fork, the Bitterroot, or the infamous Blackfoot, and evenings spent attending concerts at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater or downtown at Big Dipper Ice Cream. One particular float trip with an impromptu visit by a BHA collegiate club member will continue to serve as a reminder to me of what we already knew--community is the secret sauce of BHA. North Carolina State University club ...

Hunters and Anglers Continue Our Role in Funding Fish and Wildlife Conservation

For generations, hunters and anglers have proudly been at the heart of funding for fish and wildlife conservation in the United States, in addition to playing a central role in fish and wildlife management through the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. We’ve embraced programs and funding that would conserve fish and wildlife for all the public to enjoy – achieved through license sales, programs like the federal Duck Stamp, and excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment.
