BHA Well Represented on NM Land Office Sportspeople's Advisory Committee

New Mexico’s new State Land Commissioner, Stephanie Garcia Richard, recently revived the Sportspeople’s Advisory Committee, originally established to help guide the Commissioner's decisions on hunting, camping and other public uses of some 9 million acres of state trust land. The committee, which had been dissolved by the previous land commissioner, met in Santa Fe this May and will continue to meet throughout the year. The commissioner and several members of her staff spent two hours with ...

Catch and Feast: Fly Fishing for Trout in the Chattahoochee National Forest

"let me rephrase that, I really like to eat the trout that I catch." I have always had a conflicting relationship with fishing. I love to fly fish for trout in the mountains; something to do with casting to an exact spot, allowing the fly to drift as if it was an insect, and the absolute beauty of trout and the mountainous landscapes they live in. But I also like to eat fish, let me rephrase that, I really like to eat the trout that I catch. When I started fly fishing in college up in New ...

The Joy of Mountain Goat Viewing in the Uinta Mountains

Anyone who has hiked Mount Timpanogos has likely seen (and been stared down) by a mountain goat somewhere along the trail. I didn’t know this was a normal occurrence when I did this hike for the first time in August 2018.  Coming around a bend in the trail, I peered between tree branches, tall grasses and scraggly bushes into a shallow gully and saw snowy white haunches and a nub-tail.  My brain interpreted this sight as “polar bear butt”.  Mightily confused, I stopped questioning my sanity ...

My Home Water, The River That Caught On Fire

Author: Nathan Voris
There aren’t many universal truths that stand the test of time, but I’ve got one. This will be my 4thseason that I call the Cuyahoga River my home water. I live between Akron and Cleveland, a wilderness paradise very similar to the Frank Church. I’m less than 10 minutes from the Cuyahoga and a mile from one of its main tributaries, Yellow Creek. I fish a lot and I’ve found great wadeable stretches throughout the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio’s only National Park, and county and city ...

One of the most enthusiastic sportsmen on Capitol Hill, he is also an indefatigable champion of public lands. During the ruckus of Rendezvous, Sen.
