Rendering Bear Fat For Baking

Author: Laura Farron
If you’re lucky enough to kill a bear, as my husband Kevin was, do yourself a favor and pack out as much of the fat as you can. Clean Water Rule 101

Hunters and anglers united to oppose a recent decision by the Trump administration to roll back the 2015 Clean Water Rule and leave vulnerable to pollution and destruction roughly 50 percent of wetlands and 60 percent of stream miles in the United States. The 2015 rule clarified and restored consistency to the federal Clean Water Act (CWA) and helped protect millions of acres of wetlands and headwater streams critical to fish and wildlife populations, flood control and healthy drinking ...

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is petitioning the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop a new, state-specific Roadless Rule that would impact 4 million acres of National Forest lands in Utah. Does anybody in Utah want to protect roadless lands, which offer some of the world’s best backcountry hunting, hiking, fishing, skiing; some of the world’s most scenic places; and some of our most valuable fish and wildlife habitat? Yes, they do. Two of them are Utah BHA board member Andrew Wike, a hunter, ...

Fall 2019 New York Chapter News

The summer heat hasn’t stopped BHA-NY from working hard for our public lands. Over the last few months, BHA-NY has been spreading the good-word across the state at various events and through good ole’ fashioned boots-on-the-ground conservation. In June, chapter Co-Chair Garrett Burback and board member Glen Stratton tabled at Spey Nation on the Salmon River and signed up nearly a dozen new members. We also held several cleanups across the state. Under the leadership of board member ...

Fall 2019 Southeast Chapter News

In the midst of our usual summer heat and humidity, the Southeast chapter has had a busy few months enjoying our public lands and waters. We followed up our successful Gobblers and Garbage initiative by issuing a chapter-wide challenge during Hike to Hunt to collect trash while folks were out trekking the trails. Members responded to this by gathering over 300 lbs. of trash during their travels. In July chapter leaders in Mississippi organized the Pearl River event to educate the public ...
