Zachary Williams / Monday, September 16, 2019 / Categories: Media Fall 2019 Yukon Chapter News The new Yukon chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers had a busy first year. We became an official chapter of BHA, obtained status under the Yukon Societies Act, grew our membership and were directly involved in four important consultations with the Yukon government. In 2018/19 Yukon BHA met with officials from both the Department of Environment and the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources to consult on new resource road regulations, off-road vehicle regulations, changes to Yukon permit hunts, and a review of the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board. All of these successful consultations resulted in positive influence on the outcomes and forthcoming regulations. We have recently undertaken a cumulative-effects geospatial project to map the impacts of rural and remote land applications on access to backcountry and front country areas. Yukon BHA has recently applied to Yukon government for inclusion to the Elk-Agriculture working group. At the request of Yukon government, in 2019, Yukon BHA will be attending consultation on the addition of new wildlife management tools for moose.
