Kansas Legislative Recap 2024 - Efforts to Fight Commission Attacks

Author: Kansas BHA

The impetus for making these changes is widely attributed to the commission holding a listening session regarding banning baiting for deer to combat disease transmission. But there I was, walking the ‘halls of Congress’, no less. To say I’d never done that before would be the understatement of a lifetime! The Land and Water Conservation Fund Coalition had contacted the Kansas Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (and a few other chapters) to see if any Board members could go ...

Kansas deer tag legislation bad for hunters and hunting

Author: Kansas BHA
Everybody knows there's no such thing as a free lunch, right? Yet there are some folks in the Kansas legislature who think that you don't understand that fact. A bill introduced in the Kansas Legislature this session (HB 2079) offers a lot of folks free deer tags, but it has nothing to do with deer tags in the long term. The real goal of that bill is to change hunting ...

Kansas BHA Urges a "NO" Vote on HCR 5014

Author: Kansas BHA
On Election Day ballots will include Constitutional Amendment HCR-5014.  Voting “Yes” for this amendment to our State Constitution would give the Kansas Legislature direct authority over the management of fish and wildlife to the Legislature as opposed to KDWP professionals trained in the fish and wildlife management.  Supporters of the bill will argue this amendment creates a checks and balances to limit bureaucracy, however, KDWP’s internal checks and balances is the Wildlife Commission. ...
