As an adult onset hunter and angler entering my fifth full season, I frequently wonder how I ever lived without these pursuits. The phrase became an unfortunate mantra because I had ...

Mental Health Awareness Month: Find Healing Outside

May is Mental Health Awareness month.  I’ve gone back and forth on writing this article. What pushed me to this side of the fence is realizing that if it this helps one person get through their struggles, my personal reflection will have been worth it. Covid has brought a number of things to light over the past year. Unfortunately, the prevalence of mental health issues and suicide increased more in the past year than any other 12-month period. Maybe my story can help you or someone you ...

New Law Reignites Debate Over Money’s Role In Hunting Opportunities

Author: Montana BHA
A last-minute addition to a Montana fish and wildlife bill signed into law on Friday reinvigorated a long-running debate over the role of money in hunting in Montana. House Bill 637 is sprawling; it affects game wardens, block management, hunting with dogs and taking turkeys, along with other fish and wildlife management issues in the state. But during the last day of the legislative session, it was amended to include language that boosts the odds of nonresidents with outfitters getting deer ...

Southeast Chapter Supports LDWF’s Proposed License and Fee Changes

On April 21, 2021, Representative Tony Bacala introduced House Bill 691 in order to implement a hunting and fishing license restructure. The restructure of licenses and fees would simplify the purchasing process by consolidating multiple existing licenses into fewer licenses, and provide an increase in revenue for the Department. A license restructure was last implemented in the year 2000. Now, more than 20 years later, LDWF needs an increase in funding in order to support Louisiana’s ...

University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Adopts the Dewey Marsh Wildlife Area

The conception of these projects are quite unique in their nature. The Dewey Marsh Wildlife Area has been on my radar since my freshman year at UWSP and considered it a diamond in the rough for students and fellow public landowners in central Wisconsin. It boasts approximately 5,000 acres that contain a diverse range of habitat for the various game species that inhabit the property. In the fall of 2020, we began the process of adopting the Dewey Marsh Wildlife Area through the Wisconsin ...
