North Dakota BHA Inventories 50 Miles of Fence on BLM

Last weekend, North Dakota BHA board members spent the weekend inventorying nearly 50 miles of fence using ATVs on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Big Gumbo represents the last continuous sage steppe habitat for Greater sage grouse (GRSG) in the state of North Dakota, holding the only active leks found on BLM parcels within the area. TAKE ACTION: Oppose North Dakota HB 1151

UPDATE: 4/4/23- House Bill 1151 failed to pass with a Senate vote of 26 opposed, 21 in favor.  Likely the most contentious bill of the legislative session for ND BHA, the bill passed the house but was fortunately killed in the senate. The chapter opposed this bill mainly upon the premise that it would have stripped the ND Game & Fish Department of their authority to implement their game management plans. North Dakota BHA Opposes Public Land Transfer

North Dakota Representatives have introduced a bill (HB 1428) that could jeopardize traditional public hunting, fishing, camping and hiking access on over 400,000 acres of public land, including Army Corps of Engineers-held shorelines on Lake Sakakawea and Lake Oahe. For decades, the shorelines of these lakes have been open for public recreation.
