Make Your Voice Heard! Travel Management Planning on the Little Missouri National Grassland

The Forest Service is in the early engagement stage of their Travel Management Plan for the Little Missouri National Grasslands. They are hosting a series of Open House meetings to engage the public, provide an avenue for information sharing, and invite public comment.

We encourage you to show up and aid in further developing LMNG Travel Management efforts. Some things that the North Dakota Chapter will be advocating for during the Travel Management Planning Process:

• Protection of Inventoried Roadless Areas and non-motorized areas should be highest priority. This includes no new roads or road expansions and closing illegally created trails (but ensuring grazing community maintains current access to their cattle and grazing infrastructure).
• Protection of habitat and decreased wildlife disturbance by reducing illegal travel on trails or unnecessary two-track trails. This includes better signage designating motorized and non-motorized areas and seasonal closures.
• Opposition to new trail development for OHVs
• Maintaining public use of country or township roads built and maintained using public funds (county, state, federal)
• Accounting for and utilizing horizontal drilling technology to reduce footprint and impacts of oil and gas development.
