Thomas Baumeister / Tuesday, December 1, 2020 / Categories: Media, State Issues LETTER: Montana BHA supports efforts to ban drones while fishing December 1, 2020Phil KilbreathFWP Enforcement DivisionP.O. Box 200701Helena, MT 59620-0701pkilbreath@mt.gov Dear Mr. Kilbreath: Montana has a long tradition of safeguarding the essence of recreational hunting and fishing as activities that require skill, effort, and restraint. This rule fits the tradition. As is, the rule affirms the essence of recreational fishing as an activity that requires personal skill and effort through the use of a handheld fishing device. As we know, a fishing rod is a rather simplistic and somewhat archaic device but that is by design. Drone fishing has nothing to do with this way of fishing. Consistent with Montana's well-established fair chase ethic, the Montana Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers wholeheartedly endorses the adoption of the rule. Thank you for taking the high road on this issue and for involving the public.
