BHA Podcast & Blast, Ep. 93: Bobwhite quail conservation with Michael Hook and Mark Coleman

Some of us are old enough to remember the gloaming of hot summer days waning into twilight, listening to cicadas and the sweet, two-note call of bobwhite quail gathering for the night. A few of us of us know the intense excitement of coming up behind a bird dog on point and the explosive flush of a 40-bird covey suddenly in the air. Southern quail hunting was a culture and a way of life. Meet the folks on the front lines of restoring the bobwhite quail and quail hunting to public and private lands of the South. Michael Hook, small game program leader for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, joins Hal and photographer Mark Coleman of the South Carolina Bobwhite Quail Initiative in a wide-ranging conversation about habitat, bobwhites and the sheer love of the hunt.
