Tucson Hunting for Sustainability Recap

The fourth Annual Arizona Hunting for Sustainability (H4S) camp brought together new hunters, past participants, and mentors to chase quail, dove, and rabbits North of Tucson. Many of the new hunters harvested their first game while also learning about ethics, game processing, cooking, regulations, conservation, and advocacy. Several past participants attended and volunteered in the kitchen while also getting out in the field. Thanks to the many volunteers from BHA, Southern Arizona Quail ...

Chasing Quail in Southern Arizona with New Hunters

Bella, my German wiredhaired pointer, rounded the prickly pear cactus and jammed onto a staunch point. I quietly motioned Tyrell and Harrison towards either side of her quivering body. As they approached, the Gambel’s quail rocketed out of the cactus cover. Two shots rang out at precisely the same moment. Thoughts of my son taking the lead and me carrying my young daughter on my shoulders brought back fond memories. Today, however, things ...

Understanding Access on Arizona's State Trust Lands

Bella, my German Wirehair Pointer, and I quartered through the thick grass cover, prickly pear cactus, yucca, and a few pinon and juniper in search of Arizona’s renowned Gambel's quail. We were hunting a small portion of the over 9 million acres of state trust land in Arizona. Did you know you can use these lands even though they are listed as not “Public Lands” and posted as “No Trespassing”? Some of these lands are open to hunting and fishing if you have a valid hunting and fishing license ...
