Behind the scenes: BHA’s water access captain Rob Parkins

Author: Lj Dawson
Rob Parkins did not move from the East Coast to Idaho for the cold Rocky Mountain winters. He spends them cozy inside his house tying flies, scouring maps for hunting, and counting the days until the rivers break from the ice. Rob also spends the snowy months of the year working on stream and river access across the country as BHA’s public waters access coordinator. He joined Team BHA this January, but rivers have been the defining characteristic of Rob’s life. The BHA bumper sticker, “Use ...

Behind the Scenes: BHA’s office maestro Caitlin Frisbie

Author: Lj Dawson
The last time BHA’s office operations manager moved, her friends groaned under extra heavy boxes. If she had let them look inside, they would have found her rock collections. Caitlin Frisbie collects rocks on every adventure. It’s that fascination with her surroundings that she picked up from her mother who is a conservation biologist and her father, who by the time she was four, put a fly rod in her hands. “I find it really hard to sit still,” Caitlin said. Behind the scenes: Ty Smail, BHA's merch guy

Author: Lj Dawson
Ty Smail, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ merchandise coordinator, can usually be found under piles of shirts and packages in the bottom level of the Missoula office, sending off packages of swag to members. The sixth-generation Montanan found his way to BHA in 2017 after many years of hunting. Ty grew up road hunting in eastern Montana, and he adopted the family culture of hunting – one that runs deep: his great grandmother still wanted to go fishing when she was 97 years old, but Ty began ...

Behind the scenes: BHA's youngest recruit Dylan Snyder

Author: Lj Dawson
Dylan Snyder, born in Montana, hasn't missed a chance to go hunting and fishing since he could walk. He grew up following his older sister and father up the nearest mountain to hunt. He likes to say he's been involved in the fight for public lands for a mere cup of coffee compared to his older compatriots.  He stuck to his own personal sporting adventures until a year ago when the attacks on public lands and waters pushed him to go beyond his own recreation and get involved in the fight. He ...
