Protect Indiana's Habitat: Urge the Governor to Veto SB 389

The majority of Indiana’s wetlands are under attack as SB 389 has now passed both chambers of the Indiana legislature. Currently, only wetlands that are connected to navigable waters or their tributaries are protected by federal law, while federal protections of isolated wetlands were left unprotected through an administrative repeal of provisions in the Clean Water Act. Thankfully, two decades ago, the State of Indiana recognized the importance of protecting clean waters and high quality ...

Stand up for access and urge co-sponsorship of the Wisconsin railroad crossing bill

For over 100 years hunters and anglers of Wisconsin were able to access some of the very best hunting and fishing in the state simply by walking directly across a set of railroad tracks. From De Soto Bay to the Wolf River, from the marshes of Buffalo County to the grasslands of Walworth and Racine Counties, hunters and anglers relied on these crossings to get to their favorite public hunting and fishing grounds.   All of this changed in 2006 when, citing the need for public safety, the ...

How To Make Wild Turkey Ragu

With turkey season quickly approaching but winter weather still holding on, I dream of mornings in the woods listening to gobbles breaking the silence of the pre-dawn darkness. A wild turkey ragu over pasta is a welcome dish in my house any time of year, but it is especially inspiring now. This particular ragu recipe utilizes legs and wings – parts of the turkey ...

We asked each to highlight their favorite part of #Rende2019 to get you all excited for #Rende2020 in Missoula, Montana!   Tim Rogers, BHA Ohio Board Member The highlight of my Rendezvous trip was getting to chat with Land Tawney and Ed Nickens at the hotel bar as things were winding down one night. It’s not often you get to engage in candid ...

Wisconsin's new CWD rules under threat

“In any moment of decision, the best thing to do is the right thing, the next best thing to do is the wrong thing, and the worst thing that you can do is nothing.” – Theodore Roosevelt For too long, the State of Wisconsin has done the worst thing in the battle against Chronic Wasting Disease.    But, after years of adopting a relatively hands-off approach to managing the disease, earlier this year, the DNR released the results of a study that confirmed what studies from across the nation and ...
