Fish and Wildlife Conservation Scholarship
Purpose: To offer financial assistance for graduate students studying fish, wildlife, or naturalresource conservation topics within Alaska, to promote applied science and foster the next generation of Alaska conservation professionals. Alaska BHA will place priority on applicants that are hunters or anglers and are undertaking projects that relate to animal populations or landscapes that are relevant to outdoor recreation.
Amount: The scholarship amount of $1000 for the Fall 2025 semester will be awarded in August 2025. An additional $500 may be awarded to the student for the Spring 2026 semester upon receipt of an unofficial transcript showing a 3.2 or better GPA.
Qualifications:
1. Applicant must be admitted to a graduate program and working on a project within Alaska.
2. Applicant must be undertaking a project or focus relating to fish, wildlife, or natural
resource conservation in Alaska.
3. Applicant must demonstrate prior good academic standing with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 during undergraduate years or prior graduate school semesters.
4. Applicant must provide one letter of recommendation.
Terms:
1. Scholarship money may be used by the student for personal (e.g., living costs) or project-related expenses (e.g., conference registration or travel) at their discretion.
2. AK BHA should be acknowledged for the scholarship contribution in the student’s outputs including thesis/dissertation, presentations, outreach materials, and scientific publications.
3. The winner will be encouraged to present information about their project to the AK BHA Board or to the public at a BHA event. Information about the winner and their project may be shared publicly by BHA.
4. The student’s project should follow the principles of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation and should not advocate for curtailment of public access to fish, wildlife, or landscapes without strong scientific evidence.

The Scholarship Application Form and materials must be filled out and submitted at the web address below by 5:00 PM AKST on July 1, 2025.
Applicants will be notified of a decision by August 2025.
