Pop Up Waterfowl Birding at Chena Flood Project - A Recap

by Nate Kibbey, Interior Representative AK Chapter

Mid-May is a great time to see all of the beautiful migrators pushing north. Birding is a weekly pastime for my wife and I, but today I opened the outing to other BHA members. We started off with some coffee provided by a Wild Rivers Coffee Co , an Alaska Chapter Sponsor. The coffee, conversation, and birds all made for a lovely outing.

A few brand-new birders, and some really experienced individuals made it out to see a good mixture of migratory species. A Boreal owl, many duck species, a sharp shinned hawk, and lesser yellow legs were all on the list of noted sightings. MOther's Day morning with coffee brews turned out as a serene, low-key event that was appreciated by the group.
