Latest:

  • The Nebraska Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers presented the inaugural annual PUBLIC LANDS HERO award to Adam Kester of the Nebraska Game and Parks office in North Platte. The Hero’s Award is presented annually to an individual who has provided dedicated and sustained service towards improving access to, and/or increasing the amount of, public lands available for hunters and anglers in the state. See these posts for details on Adam’s numerous accomplishments relative to access for the outdoor public

  • The fight for the Niobrara National Scenic River continues, please write letters to your state senators and members of the state Natural Resources Committee

Also, consider attending the hearing at the capitol, Sept. 19 at 1:00pm. See our original post on the BHA website. (This is a national issue so please alert your out of state friends)

  • Signs are now being posted on National Wildlife Refuges throughout Nebraska asking for feedback. The sign below is an example from Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge. If you are out fishing, hunting etc. on our U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refuges please provide feedback on how much you appreciate the sportsmen’s access to these public lands in our state. Because Nebraska has so little federal land access, we need to let the Department of Interior know how important that access is to our outdoor heritage.

Other News, Requests, and Reminders

  • Good news for Wapiti Wildlife Management Area access. Funding for gravel/rock has been approved for the east access road and NGPC will be working with the Lincoln County Roads Department to have this spread.

  • We are still waiting on the Lincoln NGPC office to make a decision on opening up hunting on Hansen Memorial WMA. It is currently being operated as a game refuge and, as you know, your chapter has been trying to get this opened for some type of hunting.

  • PLEASE, when you are out using our public lands and waters, report any illegal activity occurring on that public land to the local game warden or county sheriff’s office. That includes poaching, vandalism, illegal dumping, trespassing etc.! Our continued access to these properties depends on it.
