Minnesota Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Helps Create New Public Land!

Thanks to Mark Norquist and Greg Kvale for representing the Minnesota BHA Chapter at the Dedication for the new Cupido Wildlife Management Area near Syre, MN.

The Minnesota Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers has always been a strong supporter of putting public lands in public hands. In one of our biggest wins yet, we helped create the new, 955-acre Cupido Wildlife Management Area near Syre, Minnesota. This land is a rare piece of native Minnesota prairie land and is named for the animal it will protect-- the greater prairie chicken, also known as the tympanuchus cupido. This new Wildlife Management Area serves double-duty as well, by providing hunters with valuable, publicly-accessibleupland hunting terrain.

This area was purchased with funds generated at Pheasants Forever’s 2020 Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic in partnership with Pheasants Forever, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Ruffed Grouse Society, and many other valuable partners.

In addition, BHA and the Minnesota Chapter kicked in $10,000 to help bring this project to completion.
