California Chapter Helps with Guzzler Repair Project

Volunteers from the California Chapter of BHA recently showed up to support the Society for the Conservation of Bighorn Sheep on a guzzler repair project in Southern California. They believe a big ram punched a hole in one of the old brittle guzzlers and the volunteer team showed up to replace both old tanks and more.

The project was located in the Orocopia mountains, a remote desert portion of Riverside County managed by the Bureau of Land Management, and it involved heavy lifting, steep terrain and lots of sweat equity to pull off. Volunteers spent the weekend working to replace the two old tanks with new ones in kind, which was no easy feat in the steep, rocky terrain.

In addition, the adjacent rain collection mat was re-stretched and repaired with additional rocks piled on it to prevent wind from getting under the hypalon.

Finally, the team hauled and pumped water up to the new guzzlers to complete the weekend's work. A big shout out to all of the volunteers and organizers who helped to make the event a success.
