Winter 2020 Arizona Chapter News

This past summer we spent time with the University of Arizona on their Santa Rita Experimental Range continuing the placement of our OHV “Ride Legally” signs across the state. The Santa Rita is the longest continuously active rangeland research facility and among the five oldest biological field stations in the United States. The Santa Rita is critical open space serving a rapidly growing human population and increasingly threatened sensitive and endangered species and ecosystems. The range is managed by the University of Arizona and remains open to access for hunting, camping and OHV use. Our signs aim to help divert illegal OHV activity to legal roads and trails and away from critical research areas. Our goal through this signage project is to maintain this access for people to enjoy and use responsibly.

We also kicked off the fall season with a successful dove hunt, cook-off and pint night in Yuma, AZ. Our chapter took over the World Championship Dove Cook-Off from the Arizona Game and Fish Department in order to re-invigorate the event and encourage people to think outside the box when it comes to preparing dove. We had 10 teams battle it out in the hot Yuma Desert heat of early September to win a fantastic Traeger prize package. We look forward to next year and the years to come to grow awareness of the various ways wild game can be prepared and enjoyed.
