Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks found selenium levels were increasing in seven species of fish in Lake Koocanusa between 2008 and 2013. For this reason and many others, Montana BHA strongly supports the state of Montana's proposed water quality limits to protect Lake Koocanusa and the Kootenai River from selenium contamination from Canada’s coal mines.
