BHA Statement on Montana Gubernatorial Race, Busse Candidacy

MISSOULA, Mont. – Ryan Busse, a former member and chair of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ North American board of directors, recently announced a campaign for governor of Montana.   

As a 501(c)(3), BHA is legally prohibited from distributing statements on or speaking out in support of (or in opposition to) candidates for public office. BHA does not take positions on or support in any way individuals running for elected office. 

Busse, a resident of Montana, is exercising his rights in our representative democracy and is acting entirely independently of BHA, as he has been since he stepped down from his volunteer role with the BHA board in 2020. 

BHA remains focused on mission-relevant priorities: conserving important habitat on our public lands and waters, sustaining and enhancing public access, promoting fair chase and expanding hunting and fishing opportunities.
