PA Chapter's Annual Intro to Flyfishing course reels in 13 new anglers

For the third year in a row, the Pennsylvania Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers hosted its annual “Intro to Fly Fishing” course. Aimed at brand new or novice fly fishers, the weekend-long fish camp is held annually on public land in the Keystone State.

This year’s event was held at Little Pine State Park in Lycoming County. Thirteen participants caught and released dozens of trout- many of them were first fish on the fly and several large fish were landed in the 18” range. Many important subjects were covered such as basic entomology, tackle selection, knots, reading water, and a fly tying demonstration.

The “River Dinner" was a big hit — mountain surf and turf with stream trout, duck and venison seared in bear grease over the open fire —as were the amazing breakfast burritos in the morning.

Many thanks to PA Board Member Adam Eckley, who leads the event and his band of volunteers who continue to make it a success, including: Sarah Xenophon, Steve Bousum, Shannon Mikolajczyk Berndt, Andy Lehman, and Matt Ross. We’re looking forward to next year for another great event!
