The New Jersey Chapter of BHA, in partnership with National Wild Turkey Federation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, hosted a mentored archery deer hunt for 6 adults at the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge in Sussex, NJ in October, 2022. Over a full weekend, the hunters attended a safety and deer hunting workshop and then hunted a full day with their mentor. “I am always surprised at the questions they ask, their thoughts and experiences and view of the entire thing,” said event organizer Cristina Jones, a board member of New Jersey BHA and a volunteer with NWTF. “It was a bonus that we had a nice doe harvested and all the hunters got to blood track, watch the field dressing and the enjoy venison meals and take some home.” BHA leaders pitching in included Morris, Jones, NJ Chair Adam Paladini and Secretary John Provenzale. The Newton High School Future Farmers of America invited the hunters to the school and the students walked them through how to butcher and process a deer from start to finish. Congrats to all the new hunters and cheers to the mentors for giving of their time and knowledge. Kudos to all the partners, as well. Click Here to learn more about New Jersey BHA.
