Montana BHA / Monday, February 6, 2023 / Categories: Media, State Issues Montana BHA statement on HB 372 Montana BHA strongly supports the right of every citizen to hunt, fish and trap. This should come as no surprise. House Bill 372 seeks to reconstruct this right in our state's Constitution. While some argue that this is unnecessary - because the Constitution already says "the opportunity to harvest wild fish and wild game animals is a heritage that shall forever be preserved to the individual citizens of the state...", Montana BHA understands and appreciates the intent to strengthen these rights. Amending our state’s Constitution is a big deal. We believe some of the specific language in HB 372 should be clarified and strengthened to protect Montana's sporting traditions. If the bill gets a hearing, we look forward to providing specific recommendations that would achieve the shared goal of protecting Montana’s outdoor heritage in perpetuity.
