Minnesota BHA thanks Govenor Walz for Speaking-up for the BWCA

On March 10^th Minnesota DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen submitted a letter to the U.S. Forest Service requesting a completed mineral withdrawal study regarding the impacts fish and wildlife if a copper-nickel mine were to be developed in the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  Since 2016, BHA has been working hard to advance the mineral withdrawal study and protect the BWCAW watershed from the risks posed by copper-nickel mineral development in the region. Since that time more than 12,100 hunters and anglers from across the country have joined our calls to action to help protect the BWCAW. We were dismayed to see years of public input and scientific analysis disregarded with little reason provided and thus we greatly appreciate the Governor’s leadership to ensure the information gathered through this process is incorporated into the decision-making process moving forward.  The chapter thanks Governor Walz, and Commissioner Strommen for making this request to ensure the BWCAW is protected in the future.
