EVENT RECAP: Yellowstone WMA Hands-on-Habitat Day

On Saturday, July 29th, Montana BHA joined forces with Pheasants Forever and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for a fence pull on the Yellowstone Wildlife Management Area.

The 4,500-acre property provides valuable habitat for pronghorn, mule deer and a variety of upland birds. The former - the pronghorn antelope - stand to benefit most from this fence removal, as fences like the one we removed are likely to cause harm or force pronghorn to travel great distances out of their way to navigate fences. Old and dilapidated fences can also lead to higher rates of mortality for nesting sage grouse. Within a day's work, our group was able to rid the landscape of about a mile of unnecessary fencing.

The WMA is open to year round public use including hunting and fishing. Like all state-owned lands, a Conservation License is now required to access the site; this license is included in the purchase of hunting and fishing licenses, but needs to be purchased separately by other users.
