May 24-26th, 2019, Charleston, VT — New England BHA took part in VT Department of Fish and Wildlife's inaugural Learn to Hunt program, along with NWTF, L.L. Bean, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
After completing and online education component, adult students started the long weekend with basic hunter education, including gun safety, field exercises and time at the range shooting rifles and patterning turkey loads.
They were progressed through a variety of training modules specific to turkey hunting that culminated in a Sunday morning hunt.
Multiple BHA members assisted, serving as participants in panel discussions, instructors, and mentors. The atmosphere at NorthWoods Stewardship Center took on the feel of a hunting camp for the weekend with campfires, shared meals, bunkhouse snoring and tall tales after the hunt. This program took these students through the veil and brought them into the BHA community of hunters!
