New Jersey BHA / Monday, July 18, 2022 / Categories: Media, State Issues Comment now on Hudson Canyon sanctuary designation The Hudson Canyon sits roughly 100 miles offshore from New Jersey. Throughout history it has played an economic, environmental, commercial, and recreational role by providing pristine habitat for countless species, from sea turtles to sperm whales. The Wildlife Conservation Society has proposed the Hudson Canyon to be designated a marine sanctuary. The goals being the conservation of habitat and wildlife, oceanic study and sustainable use of the area, among others. While these are all goals to fully support, it is also important that we preserve access for the recreational angler. The Canyon has long been our prime ground for chasing tuna, swords, mahi etc. Click Here to visit NOAA’s webpage regarding the proposal and learn more.
