Welcome to the North Carolina Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers!
North Carolina is a unique state comprised of three main regions – the mountains in the west, the central Piedmont plateau, and the coastal plains in the east. In total, there are just over 1.2 million acres of National Forest lands across four National Forests and nearly 2.1 million acres managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission as part of its Game Lands Program. Altogether, North Carolina has nearly 5 million acres of public land which contributes to nearly 14.5 percent public ownership of the land in North Carolina. In addition, North Carolina features approximately 301 miles of ocean coastline, ranking seventh in the nation. It is also home to remarkable natural landmarks such as the ancient New River — one of the oldest rivers in the world — and Lake Mattamuskeet, a prehistoric natural lake spanning 40,000 acres.
